Allergan, the manufacturer of Latisse, provides the following information:
Latisse is believed to affect the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways:
- Latisse increases the length of the growth phase
- Latisse increase the number of hairs in this growth phase
Clinical trials have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of Latisse, and it has been approved by the FDA as a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis. The most common side effects of Latisse (4% of users) are eye itching or eye redness. Other less common side effects include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness, or redness of the eyelids.
